Honesty- the best policy

While the dictionary provides a generic definition, everyone carries their own personal definition of honesty. Generally, honesty is a quality some possess more than others. Chip Comstock, assistant principal, believes there are many important character qualities- honesty included.

“You have to be true to yourself. It doesn’t matter what other people think,” Comstock said. “What matters is what you believe inside your heart,”

Being dishonest does not make someone a bad person, however.

“I think people are dishonest with me to stay out of trouble, or to avoid disappointment,” Comstock said.

Dishonesty out of the fear of disappointment only results in disappointment, Comstock points out. If there is no honesty, there is no trust.

“One time I returned home from the grocery store and realized I had not been charged for about 20 dollars worth of batteries,” Comstock said. “I went back and paid for them, because it was a mistake I felt needed to be corrected. Honesty really is the best policy.”
